“CUSTOMER SERVICE: n. a series of activities designed to enhance the level of customer satisfaction – that is, the feeling that a product or service has met the customer's expectations.”
At the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, customer service is what we are all about. From leisure guests to convention attendees, we strive to enhance the guest experience in every aspect of their interaction with our staff.
Just recently, we received a glowing letter from Ms. Gretchen Markanday, the Associate Director of Development for the Golden Apple Foundation regarding their 2009 Celebration of Excellence event. Ms. Markanday’s compliments about Catering Manager Daniel Wolak, identifies the experience we wish every guest and client to have. Some of the comments regarding their event included “He [Daniel] helped enhance the 2009 Celebration with his own ideas which brought to it a new level of panache and style” and “He made us feel not merely as if we were working with a service provider but a partner in every sense of the word.”
I mention this compliment to express my appreciation for my staff at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place and to show that comments from guests truly make a difference. Each comment received is taken to heart and used to spur our employees to exceed expectations in every interaction. Both myself and my staff truly appreciate guests that take the time to comment on their stay as it helps to gauge our customer satisfaction and reinforce and strengthen our customer service. Keep the comments coming, so that we can ENHANCE your EXPERIENCE.

It's been a very busy couple of weeks at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place!
It's been awhile since McCormick Place has been as busy as it was for HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) 2009. It's estimated the conference brought about 30,000 people to the city of Chicago including keynote speakers such as Dennis Quaid, Alan Greenspan, and infamous computer hacker Kevin Mitnick (@KevinMitnick), who at the time of his arrest was the most wanted computer criminal in U.S. history.
Our restaurants were jam-packed as well as our guest rooms, which was nice to see, and some of the Hyatt Management team participated in the HIMSS 5k Fun Run or 1 Mile Walk on Monday to show our support. It was a cold day in Chicago for the Fun Run for most HIMSS attendees who are used to having their conference in Orlando, Vegas, or Atlanta. It was a small but great crowd that turned out, and we barely even noticed those pesky on-strike Congress Hotel employees that were protesting HIMSS' use of their employer. Another great event at HIMMS09 was the Tweet-Up on Monday night. HIMSS is hands down the conference who has best utilized social media for it's attendees. The @HIMSS twitter account was handing out meeting room numbers, details, even geo-tagging tweets via BrightKite. My TweetDeck has never seen so much activity from a convention search list! Attendees were using the hashtag #HIMSS09, but even just including HIMSS in tweets became enough after awhile. There was so much tweeting I hear there were issues with the 3G connection for some iPhone users! Is HIMSS the next SXSW? They also had two Meet the Bloggers sessions and many tech labs where not as savvy attendees could see and learn the power of social media. It was exciting for me to get a direct message from @HIMSS himself personally asking if I would be going to the Tweet Up, and saying I'd been putting out some good content. I couldn't turn down that invitation, so I made my way over to s106a and the faces behind @HyattMcCormick + @HIMSS finally met!
Overall, HIMSS09 was a great show and group and we hope to have them back in a few years!
On the opening day of HIMSS09, we were also paid a visit by the International Olympic Committee (@USOlympic) during their final visit to Chicago before the location for the 2016 Olympic Games is chosen! They toured through McCormick Place where there was a huge demonstration of fencing, martial arts, drums, and more! The HIMSS attendees really got a kick out of it too!
Here is a virtual tour of Chicago's proposed plans for hosting in 2016.
The Olympic Committee will make it's final decision in October between Chicago, Tokyo, Madrid, and Rio De Janeiro.
